Kathmandu: Harisiddhi Open Badminton Tournament 2078, organized by Harisiddhi Badminton Club, started on Thursday. On the first day of the competition, the Radif Maharjan and Vikas Maharjan of the organizing club made a winning start towards the men’s doubles.
The Maharjan duo played for the precious KC of Ira Badminton Club. And entered the second round by defeating Vipin Shrestha’s pair 21-2, 21-6. Similarly, the duo of Bajracharya and Suman Shakya also won under Dipris Muni of Balkumari Remix. The duo advanced to the second round with a comfortable 21-12, 21-13 victory over Kaski’s Vishesh Basnet and Yasikshan Gurung.
The pair of Pemba Sherpa of APF and Raju Thapa of Chitwan also made it to the second round of the competition held at the organizer’s covered hall. The pair defeated YCBC’s Asim Gurung and Nelson Rai 21-6, 21-11.

In the competition, U-19 men’s and women’s singles open, men’s doubles, and veteran 45 will compete in four categories. The U-19 men’s singles will feature 50 players, the women’s singles 13, the men’s doubles 55 pairs, and the veterans over 45 over 21 pairs.
In the competition with an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 million, the top three finishers in the men’s and women’s U-10 category won medals worth Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000, Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 10,000 in the men’s doubles and Rs 30,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 7,500 in the veteran category. The organizers have stated that they will receive toffees and certificates.
