English club Manchester City, which has already secured a place in the knockout stage of the Champions League, has lost to German club RB Leipzig.
Leipzig beat City 2-1 at home in the final of the group stage on Tuesday night. Dominic Soboslai and Andre Silva scored in Leipzig’s victory. Riyad Maharaj scored a goal for City. Soboslai’s goal in the 24th minute of the game at the Red Bull Arena gave the home side the lead. He scored on a pass from Conrad Leimer. Silva doubled Leipzig’s lead in the 71st minute. He made good use of Emil Forsberg’s pass.
Meanwhile, in the 76th minute of the game, Maharaj signaled for City to return to the game by scoring on a pass from Oleksandr Jinchenko. However, City could not return to the game after Kyle Walker was sent off in the 82nd minute. Despite the defeat, City topped Group A with 12 points from six games. Leipzig, who beat City, finished third with seven points and qualified for the Europa League.
In the other match of the same group, PSG beat Club Brugge 4-1. Lionel Messi and Clean Mbappe scored two goals each in PSG’s victory. Brugge’s Mats Rits scored a goal. In the second minute of the game, Brazilian forward Neymar was absent, and PSG took the lead through Mbappe’s goal.
Nuno Mendes’ opening shot was saved by goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, but Mbappe converted the rebound. He beat the defender and goalkeeper from near the 6-yard box.
Five minutes later, Mbappe doubled PSG’s lead. Angel de Maria’s clever pass from outside the penalty area was converted by Mbappe. Messi scored in the 37th minute to give PSG a 3-0 lead. Goalkeeper Mignolet had no chance to save his shot from outside the penalty area.
Mats Ritz scored for the visitors in the 67th minute of the second half. He hopes to get back into the game by scoring in the first touch inside the penalty area. However, PSG got a penalty in the 76th minute.
After Messi fought inside the penalty area, he converted the penalty himself into a goal. Despite the win, PSG remained in second place and entered the last 16. PSG finished second with 11 points from three games with three wins, two draws, and one loss. Brugge, on the other hand, was at the bottom with 4 points from 6 games.
German club Borussia Dortmund, who had been knocked out of the group stage of the Champions League, went on to win the final game of the group stage. Dortmund beat 10-man Turkish club Besiktas 5-0 at home. In Dortmund’s victory, captain Marca Reus and Earling Browat Holland scored twice, and Donnell Mallen scored once.
The home side took the lead in the 29th minute through a goal by Malen in a one-sided match at Signal Iduna Park, Germany, on Tuesday night. Dortmund took advantage of the fact that in the 43rd minute of the game, Valentin was sent off for eating a straight red card. In the second minute of the first half, captain Reus doubled the lead with a penalty kick.
In the 53rd minute of the game, captain Reus scored the second individual goal and the third goal for the team with a pass from Mamud Dahud. Both subsequent goals were scored by young star Holland.
